Painting Exhibition in a former public pissoir
This tiny, thick-walled urinal from another century still carries the memory of its former purpose: a street relief station, once smelling of ammonia, wet stone and hurried anonymity.
Swallowing light, swallowing sound, swallowing shame.
Shoulder to shoulder they stood, facing the same cold enamel mouth, backs turned to the world, emptying themselves in the dimness.
We do not whitewash the bruise of this place. We hang paintings here like confessions—fragile, stubborn, bleeding color into the stale air.
They must breathe the same breath, feel the same cold porcelain stare, carry the weight of bodies that once pressed against these tiles in urgent, wordless need.
This was a room built for release, not revelation.
Public, yet isolating.
Now, in the half-light of embarrassment and echo, something insists on being seen.
The paintings do not decorate the room, they lean against its memory.
What was once a site of necessity becomes a chamber of uneasy reflection.
And in this small, stubborn cavity of the city, the paintings refuse to flush away.
